Consolidating the Program
In late 2023, the Saudi Arabian Men’s Team returned to Canada, arriving in Kelowna, British Columbia, for the second edition of the Pan Continental Curling Championships. The objective had fundamentally shifted. Calgary in 2022 was about securing the first historic victories; Kelowna in 2023 was about proving those wins were not anomalies. The goal was to establish consistency and solidify Saudi Arabia’s permanent footprint in the B-Division.
A Dominant Statement on the Ice
The standout moment of the Kelowna campaign was an emphatic validation of the team’s growing tactical maturity. Facing Kenya, the Saudi squad didn’t just secure a win—they dominated.
Closing out the match with a massive 18-4 victory, the team showcased an aggressive, sustained offensive performance. Putting up 18 points in international play requires more than just making good shots; it requires clinical execution, capitalizing on opponent mistakes in every single end, and maintaining relentless pressure. This wasn’t a team just happy to be there; this was a team dictating the pace of the game.
Elevating the Baseline
Competing in Kelowna, and specifically delivering that level of offensive execution, proved that the team’s baseline has been permanently elevated. They are no longer a novelty act on the ice; they are recognized competitors navigating the strategic depths of international play. The experience gathered in British Columbia reinforced the importance of sustained ice time and high-level pressure, setting the stage for the program’s next phase of technical development.
