The Inaugural Pan Continental Championship
In November 2022, the curling landscape shifted. The World Curling Federation replaced the regional PACC with the Pan Continental Curling Championships (PCCC), hosting the inaugural event at the WinSport Event Centre in Calgary, Canada. For the Saudi Arabian Men’s Team, competing in the B-Division, this tournament was about executing on everything they had learned over the past four years.
They arrived in Calgary not just to participate, but to compete. And they delivered the biggest milestones in the program’s history.
The Milestone: Back-to-Back International Victories
Every sports program has a defining moment where potential turns into proof. For Saudi Curling, that moment happened on the ice in Calgary. The team secured Saudi Arabia’s first-ever official victory in a World Curling Federation event by defeating Nigeria in a tense, nail-biting 7-6 finish.
But they didn’t stop there. Proving that the first win was no fluke, the team immediately backed it up by defeating Kenya with a decisive 10-8 score. Securing two official wins meant the team effectively broke the barrier that all emerging nations face. They proved they possessed the tactical execution, the stamina, and the composure to close out games and secure victories on the world stage. It validated the countless hours of off-ice logistics, training, and the brutal trial-by-fire matches from previous years.

The Evolution of the Roster
The team’s performance in Calgary demonstrated a clear maturation in gameplay. The transition from surviving matches in 2021 to actively controlling the scoreboard in 2022 showed that the team dynamics were solidifying. The roster was learning how to manage the ice, adjust to different international play styles, and capitalize on their opponents’ mistakes to secure those high-scoring ends against Kenya.
Proof of Concept
The 2022 PCCC stands as the definitive proof of concept for Saudi Curling. The journey from throwing the very first stones in 2018 to securing consecutive historic victories in 2022 is a rapid timeline for a nation with no historical winter sports infrastructure. The wins in Calgary weren’t just marks on a scoreboard; they built the foundation upon which the future of the men’s program will stand.
